Every year when my in-laws go out of town we are asked if we want to pick from their gardens while they are gone. Of course we do! I am still learning how to garden so we haven’t had a lot of success just yet.
My father-in-law is an amazing gardener. One of these days I need to have him sit down with me and let me write down all his gardening tips. I wish my garden even looked remotely like his. Maybe someday.
I always like to try and take the whole family with us on these veggie picking expeditions so we can spend some quality family time. The kids always end up playing more then helping, but I am ok with that. They are out in the country having fun. It was such a nice, cool and overcast day. Just the way I like it.
I took a LOT of pictures while we were there. I have decided that this post doesn’t need a lot of explaining. I will let the pictures do most of the talking.
These two were supposed to be helping me pick lettuce, but got distracted by all the tiny frogs jumping around. They spent most of their time chasing them and having races to see who could go the farthest without getting stuck in the mud. I didn’t realize they were racing down the rows of veggies until they had been at it awhile. Sorry Grampie.
In this photo you can see the kids standing in 2 rows of peas, next to lettuce, beets, onion and on the far end potatoes.
Rows of what I am assuming are broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage.
More beets and rows of corn just starting to come up.
Spring Herb Garden
A freshly tilled bed ready to be planted
Grampie is serious about his tomatoes. Can you tell by the number of tomato cages? I couldn’t even get them all in one photo.
These plants will become a wall of tomatoes by summer. Grampie has been known to plant 100 tomato plants in a single season. We love this because we are often the recipients of the excess. It didn’t look like he was quite so ambitious this year. I only saw 2-3 rows.
Spring blackberry patch. This is one of my favorite placed in the summer.
I had to get a few shots of the flowers as well.
I know you already saw these two, but I needed somewhere to put the photos. They were just too cute not to add.
